Bethany (Betania), il cui nome significa “casa di grazia”, è una
località della Giudea, molto vicina a Gerusalemme. Si trova sul Monte
degli Ulivi (anche chiamato Monte Oliveti!). È nota per essere citata
dai Vangeli. Quel luogo e quella casa in cui abitano Lazzaro, insieme
alle sue sorelle Marta e Maria hanno un significato particolare nella
vita di Gesù.
Nelle altre località e nelle diverse città in cui si era fermato
durante la sua predicazione itinerante, perfino nella stessa
Gerusalemme, dove si compirà per lui il sacrificio supremo, Gesù si
era sempre sentito un estraneo, a volte respinto e spesso perseguitato
a causa della sua dottrina, che dava fastidio a molti. Betania invece
è il luogo della vera amicizia, il rifugio di pace per lo spirito e il
corpo.
La nostra preghiera per la piccola Bethany e’ che possa conoscere
Gesu’ come migliore amico e salvatore, e che Lui possa trovare casa
nel suo cuore.
Bethany Stella Oliveti
Bethany means “house of grace” and is an area in Judea, very close to
Jerusalem. It is located on the slopes of the Mount of Olives (also
known as Mount Olivet!) It is mentioned several times in the gospels.
The town and the house where Lazzarus lived with his sisters Martha
and Mary, was special in the life of Jesus.
In other areas and in the various towns that he visited during the
years in which he preached, even in Jerusalem where he made the
ultimate sacrifice, Jesus was treated as a stranger, at times rejected
and often persecuted because of his doctrine which many did not like.
Bethany however was a place where he found true friendship, it was a
peaceful resting place for both spirit and body.
Our prayer for little Bethany is that she will come to know the Lord
Jesus as her best friend and Saviour, and that He might find a home in
her heart.
